Crossing Spain

I love Spain so much. Maybe because it is in all aspects complementary to my northern homeland. Especially if it comes to photography:  it is colourful, energetic, dense. Last year I was lucky to visit two wonderful places. For my work, the Doñana national park close to Sevilla. And for a very special occasion — the wedding of my friend — in the province of Burgos. It was a most wonderful Estonian-Spanish wedding. Both nations made their best to show their traditions, which culminated with kidnapping of the bride and her liberation by the brave groom. Lots of wine, dancing and friendship.

In Doñana I was shooting for the WWF (the programme One Europe More Nature) about businesses and nature . More than 80% of winter strawberries consumed in Europe originate from agricultural areas surrounding the world famous Doñana National Park. Reflecting this, WWF went to the region to work out ways for irrigated agriculture to minimise its water usage so that more water is left for nature.

The book which we produced in 2009 highlights the best European examples of cooperation between businesses and nature conservation and can be seen here (PDF 16MB).
